Last night firefighters from the the Kern County Fire Department, as well as Bakersfield City Fire Department, responded to multiple fires in the Oildale area. These fires occurred in less than two hours from one another. The following is a description of events:

  • At 7:52 pm firefighters were dispatched to the 100 block of Roberts lane. First arriving firefighters found smoke coming out of multiple sides of an abandoned mobile home. The multi-agency response was able to control the fire in approximately 15 minutes.

  • At 8:50 pm firefighters were dispatched to the 100 block of Beardsley avenue. A well developed fire in a mobile home was threatening to spread to other nearby units and was extinguished by the multi-agency response.

  • At 9:17 pm firefighters were dispatched to an abandoned building reported to be on fire near Warren avenue and N Chester avenue. Firefighters forced entry into the property and began extinguishing the fire that was well developed.

In addition to these three active fires, multiple reports of suspicious fire related activity were reported. Members of the Kern County Fire Arson Investigation Unit responded to the area and arrested one individual. At the present time, investigators are continuing to gather information and urge anyone with information to call 1-877-FIRE-TIP. (1-877-347-3847)
