February 23rd, 2016  Wasco Earthquake

At approximately 4:02 PM a magnitude 4.9 earthquake struck the area of the city of Wasco, California. At this time there is no damage or injuries reported to the emergency communications dispatch center at the Kern County Fire Department. The KCFD is on earthquake readiness and has done a "windshield" canvas of the area in the fire engines to check for damage and fires.

The KCFD would like to remind everyone to have an earthquake preparedness kit at the ready in case of a larger event. Be familiar on how to turn off your utilities and have a designated meeting place for family. Check our website for further earthquake preparedness tips.
