BAKERSFIELD, CA- At 5:22 pm, the Kern County Emergency Communications Center received call of a vehicle fire at a self storage facility near the intersection of Weedpatch Hwy (184) and Kimber Ave. The owners of the vehicle attempted to stop the fire by use of their fire extinguisher before fire crews arrived, however were hampered by the quickly spreading flames.   When firefighters arrived, they were faced with a fully involved SUV that had spread into the neighboring storage facility. Crews made a rapid, aggressive attack of the fire, holding it to the first two individual storage units. Firefighters opened up the 6 adjacent units to check for extension, ensuring the fire was out and contained.

No injuries were reported.

The Kern County Fire Department would like to take this opportunity to remind residents to keep a fire extinguisher in your home and in your vehicle at all time.   Take a few minutes out of your day to go over it’s proper use, and to ensure it is in good working condition.
