OILDALE, CA- The Kern County Fire Department received multiple reports of a building on fire with an occupant still inside on the 300 block of Washington Ave. Firefighters arrived on scene of an approximately 1800 square foot, two story residential structure, with heavy smoke and fire coming from the front and east side of the building. Fire crews pulled a hose line to the front door of the residence, and were met with heavy fire coming from the door. Firefighters began a rapid, detailed search of the building for the trapped occupant, while second in fire crews established a water supply and began with extinguishment of the fire, both inside and protecting surrounding structures.   During the search, firefighters located an approximately 18 month old child who had received fatal injuries.   The fire was extinguished in just over 30 minutes, and an investigation as to what happened is currently under way.
