Lost Hills, CA

At approximately 4:53 this evening, the Kern County Fire Department received a call for a vehicle accident on I-5, near Highway 46. As resources were in route additional reports came in that a vehicle was on fire and had started a vegetation fire on the east side of I-5. First arriving crews made it on scene and found a vehicle fully involved on fire and an approximately 1 acre grass fire with heavy winds pushing the fire to the east. As fire crews were driving into fight the fire they witnessed homeless encampments that would need to be evacuated for precaution. KCSO was dispatched to assist with evacuation of 4 encampments. The fire continued to burn in grass and brush. Crews made good progress on extinguishing the fire, but remained on scene throughout the night to continue gaining full containment around the fire as well as performing mop up within the areas already burned. Currently there have been no structures damaged and no injuries as a result of this fire.

The Kern County Fire Department would like to remind residents living in high fire hazard areas to make sure they maintain the defensible space around their homes.
