Just before 4:00 p.m. dispatchers at the Kern County Fire Department received calls reporting smoke detectors sounding and a house on fire in the 600 block of Sequoia Drive in Oildale. When the first fire companies arrived on scene, they found a single story 1,000 square foot house with smoke coming from the south side of the house and the attic. Firefighters had to force entry into the house and found fire and smoke throughout. Firefighters performed a search for occupants and confirmed nobody was inside the residence. Firefighters made an aggressive initial attack on the fire while other firefighters secured the utilities and established a water supply. A secondary search for occupants was conducted to confirm there were no occupants. No injuries to civilians or firefighters was reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
