At 12:49 p.m. the Kern County Fire Department’s Emergency Communication Center received multiple calls for an interior fire in a mobile home. Fire engines were dispatched to the Lake of the Woods Mobile Village. The first arriving engine company encountered a mobile home on fire, threatening vehicles and other homes on three sides. Accountability for residents was made and an aggressive interior attack was started, to extinguish the fire and search for family pets. Firefighters were able to quickly control and extinguish the fire. Due to the well chosen actions by firefighters, vehicles and homes nearby were not damaged by the fire. Two adults and one minor were displaced from the mobile home as a result of the fire. There were no injuries to civilians or fire personnel.

During fire suppression efforts one dog was rescued from the home. Sadly four dogs, one cat, and one rabbit perished in the fire. Three cats are still missing but were witnessed running from the fire.
