At 7:38 p.m., dispatchers received multiple reports of a building on fire.  A reinforced alarm was dispatched.  Engine 14 was on scene within four minutes and reported that a large, multiple-unit, commercial structure had smoke and fire showing from a storefront window.  Additional engines were requested to respond.  Firefighters attacked the fire and searched the adjacent units within the building for possible occupants.  Nobody was was in the building at the time of the fire.  The building was home to two thrift stores, several business offices, and a small church.  Firefighters rescued a cat that was inside one of the burning thrift stores.  Animal Control was called to the scene and provided care for the cat.

Firefighters were faced with hot weather and two challenging construction features—a common attic, and multiple roofing additions. The aggressive attack by firefighters saved the businesses to the rear of the building, however the involved units suffered moderate fire and smoke damage.

Fire Investigators were called to the scene and the fire is under investigation.  Firefighters saved $750,000 of property, however the fire caused a $250,000 loss.  No injuries.
