The Kern County Fire Department received a call for a vegetation fire in the area of Round Mountain Road and Eastmont Road at approximately 2:32 this afternoon. Upon arrival, crews were faced with a 2 acre fire in light flashy fuels, moving uphill at a moderate rate of spread. One home was threatened.  Quick actions by fire crews, and a coordinated air and ground fire attack, kept the fire to a total of 506 acres. Two structures were threatened and there are no injuries to report. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The Kern County Fire Department would like to remind residents living in high fire hazard areas to make sure they maintain the defensible space around their homes.

Safety Message: Reminder that recreational target shooting should be done in approved locations, ricochet's can start grass fires.
