East Bakersfield, CA

Just before 9:45 this evening, the Kern County Fire Department received a call for smoke coming from a multi-unit apartment building in the 1800 block of Quincy Street. A reinforced structure response was requested by the responding Battalion Chief.  Upon arrival, firefighters encountered smoke showing from a triplex unit. The first arriving crew deployed hose lines to extinguish the fire while a second crew made access to the roof of the building to cut a hole for vertical ventilation. Firefighters found a 'room and contents' fire on the second story.  A search of the structure revealed no victims. The fire was controlled in approximately 20 minutes.  Neighbors report that squatters have been seen entering and leaving the structure. The cause of the fire is under investigation by KCFD Fire Investigators.
