Squirrel Valley, CA

Just before 9:45 AM this morning, the Kern County Fire Department received a call from a homeowner in Squirrel Valley near Lake Isabella reporting a grass fire threatening their home. Units from our South Lake, Lake Isabella and Kernville Stations responded to the incident. Upon arrival, crews from South Lake found a grass fire threatening four homes. Neighbors were attempting to cut a line around the fire. Crews made an aggressive attack on the fire and were able to stop it before any homes were damaged. The fire was contained in ten minutes and held at 0.64 acres.

Additional Information: This fire was started by a resident attempting to complete hazard reduction around his home using a tractor lawn mower with metal cutting blades. The Kern County Fire Department encourages residents to use extreme caution when completing their hazard reduction. Here are some tips to stay safe:
