Rosamond, CA. The Kern County Fire Department received a call for smoke and flames coming from and abandoned multi-family housing unit just before 4:00 A.M. Flames and smoke were visible and a reinforced fire alarm was called. Crews made an aggressive attack on the fire but, with a limited water supply in the area, crews were forced to have engines transport water from the nearest water supply that was over a 1/4 mile away to the structure. Fire crews did a search of the of the building and determined the homes were vacant. The fire was extinguished in approximately 30 minutes. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. A Kern County FD dozer was brought in to remove a portion of the structure that was unsafe to work around.
