Structure Fire -300 Block of Dover Place, Delano

Shortly after 4:30 a.m., the Kern County Fire Department received a call for a structure fire in the 300 block of Dover Place. A 2nd alarm structure response was initiated after the initial size-up. First arriving crews encountered a 1,500 square foot duplex with heavy smoke and flames coming from the roof and the attic vents. A second duplex was threatened by the fire. The residents had exited the structure prior to firefighters arrival. Fire crews deployed hose lines and sprayed water through the gable vents to extinguish the fire. Crews entered the structure and pulled ceiling to check for extension and salvaged the resident's personal belongings.  The fire was controlled in less than 15 minutes with minimal damage to the contents. Loss to the structure was estimated to be $50,000. Crews saved the rest of the residence estimated at $50,000.  The cause of the fire was determined to be electrical wiring in the attic space.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: There were no working smoke detectors in the residence.
