Just  after 5:00 a.m. dispatchers, at the Kern County Emergency Communications Center, received a call reporting a fire in a residence known to be vacant in Oildale. When firefighters arrived on scene they found a double-wide mobile home well involved with fire. The fire had also spread towards multiple neighboring homes, lighting the exterior of one of these homes on fire. Firefighters coordinated their efforts to protect the neighboring homes at risk, while simultaneously extinguishing the fire in the home of origin. Although the home was known to be vacant, firefighters prepared for the possibility of conducting a rescue and carefully searched the home of origin for possible occupants. The quick response of fire personnel was a key factor in preventing the fire on the exterior of the neighboring home from extending into the inside of the home. This prevented eleven occupants of the home from being displaced. There were no occupants found in the home of origin and no injuries to neighbors living in nearby homes.
