Bakersfield, CA

At 3:30 p.m. Kern County Fire Department crews responded to the report of a grass fire in the area of Everett Avenue and Wesley Lane.  First arriving firefighters found a grass fire approximately 2 acres in size which was spreading into numerous vehicles and out buildings on the lot. Due to access issues and no on-site water, additional resources were requested to support fire suppression efforts. Additionally, KCFD Helicopter 408 was requested to assist in containing the grass fire. Fire crews began a water shuttle to bring water to the incident from nearby fire hydrants.  Quick actions by ground and air resources were able to keep the fire to approximately 15 acres.  However, there were 40-45 vehicles involved with fire and approximately 8 out buildings and travel trailers involved as well. Fire crews will remain on scene for several more hours to mop up hot spots.  The cause of this fire is under investigation. There were no injuries reported by civilians or firefighters.
