At 12:29 a.m. the Kern County Fire Department and Bakersfield City Fire units were dispatched to a house fire in the 1400 block of Palm avenue. Upon arrival crews found a smoldering attic fire in a 900 square foot single story residential home. Firefighters quickly located the fire in the attic with a thermal imaging camera and were able to isolate and remove the burning debris. Damages to the home included one of the two bedrooms and the  bathroom. Kern County Building Department, PG&E, and Red Cross were called to assist with the displacement of a family of six.  A CPF SAVE card was issued to assist the family with replacing needed daily use items. Damaged electrical wiring was found in the area of the fire origin and the homeowners stated breakers and lights had recently quit working.

The Kern County Fire Department would like to remind our community to have working smoke detectors in the home and to always call a licensed electrician or the electrical company when experiencing abnormal electrical problems.
