Bakersfield, CA
At approximately 12:00 p.m. today, the Kern County Fire Department received calls for a structure fire in the 1000 Block of Orangewood street in Bakersfield. An augmented alarm was started which consisted of both Kern and Bakersfield Fire Department units. The first arriving units encountered a single family residence with heavy smoke and fire visible. An exposure to the south was threatened. Crews aggressively attacked the fire keeping it contained to the house of origin and protecting the other the exposure. The fire was brought under control quickly. Crews will remain on scene for a few more hours for mop up. Seven people lived in the home, but only 3 were home at the time of the fire. The civilians were able to evacuate before fire units arrived. Red Cross will assist the occupants. The cause is under investigation. Amount of damage is unknown at this time, but the exposure received only minor damage.
