This morning at approximately 5:24 a.m. the Kern County Fire Department received multiple calls for trees on fire. Additional reports began to come in as a reported structure fire. The first arriving engine company was faced with a structure fully involved in fire along with two vehicles and vegetation near the structure on fire as well. Firefighters acted quickly and were able to protect two nearby structures, while extinguishing the structure already engulfed in flames. Additional resources were required to assist with extinguishment, as well as addressing the vegetation fire. Firefighters were able to get a quick knockdown on the fire and performed a primary and secondary search of the structure to assure there was no one in the structure during the fire. One dog did perish in the fire, while firefighters were able to save the life of another dog. Due to the aggressive fire attack, firefighters were able to prevent the fire from spreading to the nearby structures as well as preventing what could have been a large grass fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Additional Information:  The Kern County Fire Department would like to remind residence to make sure they are performing their hazard reduction by creating the necessary defensible space around their property. The weather is quickly heating up and humidity will be dropping, which will cause vegetation to dry out resulting  in prime conditions for a fast moving vegetation fire. Do your part to help protect your structure.
