Lebec, CA

At 2:24 PM, firefighters responded to reports of a fire in the mountains east of Lebec.  The first unit on scene reported the the fire was burning in tall grass near the top of a steep slope.  Additional air tankers were ordered.  The fire is on Tejon Ranch property.  Ranch personnel assisted fire crews with accessing the fire.

A combination of fire engines, air tankers, and helicopters were used to fight the fire. One cabin was in the area of the fire.  Hazard reduction efforts proved to be effective—the defensible space around the cabin kept the flames from getting too close and firefighters were able to safely defend the structure. Currently, an estimated 100 acres of grass has burned.  Lightning in the area may be responsible for igniting the fire.  The progression of the fire has been stopped.  Crews will remain on scene overnight.
