Shorty after 6:10 PM the Kern County Fire Department received multiple calls for a fire in the 20000 block of William Tell in Alpine Forest. First arriving crews were faced with a 1/2 acre fire with a moderate rate of spread driven by a 15 MPH wind. Crews aggressively attacked the fire to stop the fire from impacting nearby structures. The fire was quickly held to 1/2 acre because of a pre-placed fuel break created by Kern County Fire Crews, via grant funds, and by the residents of the area finishing their defensible space clearances. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The Kern County Fire Department would like to remind residents to make sure they maintain the required defensible space around their home. The Kern County weather is beginning to heat up and humidities are starting to drop, which is causing the vegetation to dry out and become very susceptible to burning.
