At 1:28 AM on Wednesday morning, firefighters responded to reports of a grass fire on Sherwood Avenue, east of Hwy 65.  The fire was burning in tall grass and growing in size.

A combination of fire engines and bulldozers were used to fight the fire. Firefighters were able to stop the fire before it caused any harm to several nearby homes.

A total of 550 acres of grass burned.  Fire caused is under investigation.   

The Kern County Fire Department would like to remind residents living in high fire hazard areas to make sure they maintain the defensible space around their homes.
