At 8:09 this morning, Kern County Firefighters were dispatched to Copus Road, east of Basic School Road, for reports of multiple agricultural workers feeling ill.  Dispatchers received information that indicated that the patients may have been exposed to a pesticide.  Additional units were requested, including: HAZMAT 66 and two DECON units that specialize in decontaminating patients that have been exposed to potentially dangerous substances.

Firefighters and ambulance personnel formed triage teams and sorted the workers that remained in the area.  A total of 12 people had symptoms and were decontaminated. 11 of those 12 refused any further treatment. Additional decontamination was performed on 1 person and they were transported to the hospital by ambulance.  All other workers denied having any symptoms.  These individuals were encouraged to seek medical attention if they become symptomatic at a later time.
