Shortly after 12:24 p.m. on Saturday, the Kern County Fire Department was notified of a fire burning in the area of Caliente Bodfish Road just south of Walker Basin. Responding crews were able to see light smoke. Kern County Fire Crews arrived on scene immediately taking action on the fire. Fire was moving quickly up the slope of the canyon and was threatening homes at Rankin Ranch.  Air tankers and a medium task force strike team was immediately ordered for structure protection.  Fire crews were able to contain the fire and protect the homes that were soon to be threatened. Crews will be remaining on scene for mop up for several hours.

Assisting Agencies: Bureau Land Management, Sequoia National Forest Service and Kern County Sheriff's.

Additional Information: Hazard Reduction is a key factor to keep your home safe. Please make sure you have 100 foot clearance around your home and trees limbed up 6 feet. Have all roofs and gutters cleaned from any debris and have an evacuation plan in place in case it is needed.
