At 3:20 AM this morning, the Kern County Fire Department received a call for a house on fire in the 100 block of Sycamore Drive. Neighbors called to report the fire and went to the house to alert the residents. Two adults were able to safely evacuate the home prior to the arrival of fire crews. When the first crew arrived, they encountered a 2,500 square foot home with 80 percent involvement. The fire was also threatening passenger vehicles and a recreational vehicle. Fire crews worked to protect the exposures and extinguish the fire. During a search of the structure, firefighters discovered the body of a dog that had perished. Full containment of the fire was achieved in approximately 50 minutes. The home sustained major damage and loss is estimated at $300,000. Firefighters were able to salvage some of the belongings and protect the exposures from damage. Value saved is estimated at $80,000. KCFD Fire Investigators are working to determine the cause and origin of the fire. The two adults that were living at the home have been displaced and have made their own lodging arrangements.
