Upon arrival, crews found the engine compartment of an east bound locomotive partially involved in flames. Crews were able to extinguish the fire utilizing water and foam from the Patrols. The fire did not extend into nearby grass and the tracks were not damaged. The fire was contained to the engine compartment, causing an estimated $250,000 in damage. The locomotive itself is valued at approximately $2,000,000. A small amount of oil and lubricating fluids were spilled onto the tracks and Kern County Environmental Health was responded to assess any environmental threats.
