KCFD received a report of juveniles in the area of a quick moving grass fire that was threatening three sets of apartment buildings, which had poor hazard reduction. The quick response by the KCFD Golden Hills Sub-station, which is a seasonal station, helped contain the fire in a matter of minutes. The fire had moved to within 20 ft. of the apartment buildings prior to fire department arrival. Three juvenile boys aged 11, 12, and 13 years old confessed to starting the fire stating, "They had started playing with matches that they had found in the area". There were no reported injuries. The children and their parents have been referred to the Juvenile Fire Setters Program.

The Kern County Fire Department urges the public to take extra care removing the tall grass and weeds around their property. The Kern County Fire Department would also like to remind adults to properly educate children on the dangers of playing with fire.
