At approximately 3:45 a.m. the Kern County Fire Department received the report of a structure fire in Rosamond. Because of several reports of smoke and flames showing a second alarm was initiated. One resident was awaken to the fire by his residential smoke detectors. Crews made an aggressive attack on the fire that originated in the garage. The fire did extend into the house causing moderate damage to portions of the living area, but fire crews were able to quickly extinguish the fire and prevent it from extending into an adjacent house. Crews faced difficult fire fighting conditions because of high winds in the area, with gusts up to 20 mph.  A neighbor's car was damaged by the fire prior to fire department arrival.  One person was sleeping in the home at the time of the fire and was able to get out.  Two cats died in the fire.  Two family members were displaced and are being assisted by the local Red Cross Chapter.  There were no reported injuries.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

This family is alive from having working smoke detectors in their home. The Kern County Fire Department would like to remind everyone to make sure they have working smoke detectors in their homes.
