Caliente, CA - Firefighters arrived on scene of a grassfire on Highway 58 just before 4:30 p.m. this afternoon. The 4.3 acre grassfire’s forward progress was slowed due to existing firebreak that runs parallel to Highway 58; preventing the need for more resources to be dispatched. Firefighters will remain on scene to mop up and ensure no hot spots remain that could ignite other dry grass in the area. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

The Kern County Fire Department would like to remind residents to be fire safe as the temperature rises, humidity lowers, and red flag conditions persist throughout the area.
