Bakersfield, CA

At approximately 10:03 a.m. Kern County Fire Department emergency personnel responded to reports of an occupied duplex on fire. Upon arrival they encountered a two unit duplex and detached garage on fire. Prior to their arrival neighbors alerted the residents of the duplex to the fire and assisted them out. The firefighters skillfully worked to stop the fire from spreading to other homes in close proximity and searched for additional residents inside. Although there were many belongings on the property, downed power lines, and locked doors the firefighters quickly brought the fire under control. While conducting searches for residents one pet dog was found under burning debris, it was quickly removed unharmed. One resident, who was assisted out of the home by neighbors, was transported by Hall Ambulance for evaluation and treatment at a local hospital. There were no other injuries to civilians or firefighters reported. Damage from the fire resulted in two adults being displaced.

Community Reminder: Firefighters on scene noted that they did not hear smoke alarms sounding when they entered the home. If there is a fire in your home, smoke spreads fast and you need smoke alarms to give you time to get out. Please install and regularly check the smoke alarms in your home.

Assisting Agencies: KCSO, Hall Ambulance, BFD, PG&E, Red Cross, City Serve.
