At 5:22 p.m. Kern County Fire Department personnel were dispatched to a vegetation fire threatening multiple homes. Firefighters first on scene encountered three separate wind driven fires along South Granite Road. Experienced firefighters quickly recognized the need for more support and requested additional air and ground resources. As resources arrived the thoroughly trained firefighters in command were able to simultaneously coordinate the operations on each fire and reach full containment before nightfall.

During firefighting operations a road closure of South Granite Road was required for approximately two hours. We commend all who were effected during the closure for their patience and understanding.

Additional Information: Firefighters have noted that grasses are already very dry and burn readily. As the weather in Kern County heats up vegetation will only become more susceptible to burning. The Kern County Fire Department would like to remind residents to make sure they maintain the required defensible space around their home. June 1st is the deadline for clearing hazardous vegetation on your property.

Partner Agencies: US Forest Service, BLM, CHP, CalFire.
