Sunday at approximately 9:30 p.m. firefighters from the Kern County Fire Department responded to a multi-vehicle accident on Highway 33 one mile south of Barker Road. Upon arrival the firefighters confirmed that there were multiple patients and sadly one fatality. Using a variety of tools, including hydraulic cutters and spreaders (Jaws of Life), the firefighters skillfully worked to safely but quickly remove a trapped patient. The patient with life threatening injuries was then transported via ground ambulance to a local trauma center. A Kern County Fire Department Paramedic assisted with patient treatment while en route to the hospital.

With the winter weather forecasted for many parts of Kern County, the Kern County Fire Department would like our citizens to remember the following:

  • If you’re traveling allow extra time to reach your destination
  • Leave extra space between you and the vehicle in front of you
  • If possible wait to travel when the weather and road conditions are more favorable

Assisting Agencies:  Kings County FD, Hall Ambulance, CHP, and Caltrans
