Bakersfield, CA

At approximately 6:20 a.m. this morning Kern County Fire De-partment received multiple calls for a structure on fire with smoke and flames showing. As a result of the reported flames showing, a reinforced structure fire was started, which adds two additional fire engines to assist. The first on scene crew confirmed that a garage was fully involved in fire and that there was a house and small apartment complex threatened as a result of the fire. Crews did an excellent job containing the fire to the original detached garage and there was no damage to any of the nearby structures. There were no injuries as a result of this fire. The garage was a total loss of approximately $15,000. But, quick action by fire crews saved approximately $350,000 of property value to the threatened structures.

The Kern County Fire Department would like to remind all residents to make sure they have working smoke detectors in the house.
