Friday at approximately 7:19 p.m. firefighters from the Kern County Fire Department responded to a multi-vehicle accident on Panama Lane near Enos Lane. Upon arrival the firefighters confirmed that there was one patient trapped inside one of the vehicles involved. Using a variety of tools, including hydraulic cutters and spreaders (Jaws of Life), the firefighters skillfully worked to safely but quickly remove the trapped patient. They were able to remove the patient in approximately 20 minutes. The patient was then airlifted to a local trauma center.

The first hour after the occurrence of a traumatic injury is known as the Golden Hour. This hour is considered the most critical for emergency medical treatment. At this incident the specialty equipment and training of the firefighters performing patient extrication, combined with air transport provided for the best possible patient outcome.
