Just before 2:00 a.m. dispatchers, at the Kern County Emergency Communications Center, received a call reporting a fire in a single family residence in east Bakersfield. When firefighters arrived on scene they found smoke coming from the front door and the eaves of the home. Firefighters were able to make entry into the home and quickly extinguish the fire as well as perform a primary search to confirm all residents had evacuated the home. Four children and two adults were able to evacuate the home due to the early notification of sounding smoke detectors waking the family up. There was one minor injury, to one of the residents, as they were attempting to evacuate, An ambulance was started and the patient was transported for further evaluation. A California Fire Foundation SAVE card was issued, to the residents of the home, to help assist the family with immediate needs.

The Kern County Fire Department would like to remind all residents to assure they have working smoke detectors in their homes.
