Kernville, CA

The Kern County Fire Department received a call of four people trapped in a boat that was stuck in the middle of the Kern River, near Rivernook Campground. Based on a report that water was entering the boat, Battalion 7 requested that KCFD Helicopter 408 launch for a possible hoist rescue. The first arriving Engine, out of Kernville, witnessed that there were three people trapped in a boat and was told the fourth person had exited the boat and was safe on land. As additional fire crews arrived on scene, upstream and downstream safety was established, while other fire crews worked with Search and Rescue to make their way to the trapped victims. All occupants, in the boat, were given Personal Flotation Devices (PFD) prior to being assisted out of the boat and to the shore. There were no injuries as a result of this rescue. KCFD and KCSO personnel assisted all occupants safely back to their campsite.
