At approximately 9:54 this evening the Kern County Fire Department responded to reports of a garage fire in the 15,000 block of Domaine Chandon Avenue. The first crew arrived on scene and reported a garage fully involved with fire and threatening the main home. Occupants were found to have evacuated the home before fire crews arrived. The crew made an aggressive attack and contained the fire to the garage. The attic was charged with heat and smoke, but no fire extension. A primary and secondary search were completed and no injuries were reported. However, multiple dogs perished in the garage fire prior to fire crew arrival. The cause of the fire is undetermined at this time.

The Kern County Fire Department would like to remind all residents to make sure they have working smoke detectors in the house. The recent time change is a good time to change smoke detector batteries.

Assisting Agencies: Building Department, utility companies and Animal Control.
