At approximately 3:21 p.m. the Kern County Fire Department Emergency Communications Center received a call reporting smoke from the eves of a condominium. Provided with additional information by an arriving Delano Police Department officer, the decision to order more resources was made. Upon arrival firefighters found a multi-unit complex with large amounts of smoke coming from a single story unit. An aggressive interior fire attack was made in the involved unit while other crews searched for extension into the adjoining units. After quickly extinguishing the fire, found in the utility room and bedroom, firefighters searched the attic and void spaces in the walls to ensure no fire had extended further. Damages caused by the fire has displaced one family who is receiving assistance from local Red Cross.
The Kern County Fire Department reminds our customers to “Close The Door.” When evacuating a burning building, close doors behind you to limit fire growth.
