Taft, CA

At approximately 7:00 a.m. today, the Kern County Fire Department received calls for an apartment on fire on the 300 block of Adams Street. The first arriving unit encountered an apartment fully involved with fire. Crews aggressively attacked the fire and were able to knock it down quickly. Three units were damaged in the fire and are uninhabitable . Four families were displaced due to the fire. Red Cross was alerted to help with the displaced.
No firefighters or civilians were injured in the fire.  The cause is unknown at this time but is considered suspicious and is under investigation.

The Kern County Fire Department would like to remind everyone that smoke detectors save lives. Check the batteries in smoke detectors twice a year or replace older smoke detectors with new units that include a 10 year battery life.
