Shortly after 2:20 p.m. on Monday, the Kern County Fire Department received several calls about a fire in the area of Poso Flat Road and Granite Road south of Woody.  The fire was threatening several structures in the area.   Upon arrival, crews found an 80 acre fire moving quickly and threatening several structures in the area.  Additional resources were ordered and structure protection groups were formed to protect threatened structures.  A larger than normal air response of 3 helicopters and 6 air planes were ordered in addition to a task force of engines and 2 hand crew strike teams.  Due to the extra resources and aggressive fire attack, no structures were damaged or evacuations ordered.  The fire is currently at 308 acres and 75% containment.  Crews will be transitioning to overhaul operations at 10 p.m. tonight with full containment expected at 10 p.m.Tuesday. The cause was determined to be accidental by a resident doing grinding work.

Additional Information: The Kern County Fire Dept. would like to remind residents to be mindful of work that may cause ignition of nearby materials. Even when preventive measures are taken, high temperatures and low humidity  can overcome those measures.
