Structure Fire - 242 Francis Street, Bakersfield

Current Situation: Firefighters arrived on scene of a 800 square foot, single story residential structure with smoke showing from the front of the home. Firefighters pulled a hose line to the front of the home to extinguish fire found in the bedroom. Fire Attack made access to the bedroom involved and progression was stopped from continuing into the hallway and the rest of the home. The fire damaged the bedroom and hallway interior. No extension into attic space and no injuries were reported. The utilities were disconnected by the Gas company and P.G.& E. The family was displaced by the fire due to smoke and fire damage. The Kern County Bldg. Department has requested that the home not be inhabited till all utilities and repairs can be made. The Red Cross was contacted to assist the family with housing and additional needs.

Fire is under investigation currently for a possible cause.

Kern County Fire Department would like to remind all residents to inform children on safety precautions involving matches and lighters to prevent fires in the home.
