Trapline Description
During large fire incidents, fire information officers are assigned to gather and publicize accurate fire related information to the communities affected by the fire and area media organizations. One effective method of updating local residents and area visitors is to establish information boards at locations where people congregate such as parks, markets, and gas stations. This information route is commonly referred to as a “Trapline.”
Information posted on the “Trapline” boards includes current fire perimeter maps, fire status updates, evacuation notices and other fire related information that is pertinent to the incident and area. Fire information officers typically update the boards at least once per day and will often staff the board locations where large numbers interested people are present. In addition to the information boards, information officers will give updates to area businesses and locations where interested visitors gather.
