Cause:  

 

Bitter Creek National Wildlife Refuge

Kern County Fire Department received a report of a grass fire south of Maricopa School. First arriving crews were faced with a five acre, wind driven, grass fire. Fire crews on the ground were supported by Helicopter 408 and 4 air tankers. The fire ran into the Bitter Creek National Wildlife Refuge, however, no structures were threatened or destroyed.  Firefighters will be on scene for several hours to continue with mop up operations and patrol of the area.
