TAFT, CA- At approximately 11:48 am, a call was received by the Kern County Fire Department for a vacant 2 story structure on fire in the 400 block of Montview Ave in Taft. The first arriving engine company reported heavy fire from the detached garage to the rear of the property. Firefighters advanced hose lines to the rear fire building, relayed that the fire had spread to the main residence and was also threatening structures to the neighboring properties. Due to the size of the fire and potential for spread, a second alarm was requested.   Fire crews were able to prevent the fire from spreading to the neighboring residence, however, the main structure, detached garage, and four outbuildings were destroyed.

No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
