Bakersfield, CA

At approximately 8:20 p.m. the Kern County Fire Department received multiple calls for a structure fire in the area of Corrientes Street and College Avenue. While fire units were responding they received several reports of explosions at the same address.  The first arriving unit encountered a duplex multi family dwelling with a working fire. Crews aggressively attacked the fire keeping the fire contained and protecting exposures on two sides of the structure. During the initial attack phase of the fire, fire crews discovered the body of a deceased person while doing their primary search. This fire is now out, crews remain on scene for mop-up. KCFD Arson Unit is on scene conducting an investigation. There is one confirmed civilian fatality, no other civilian or emergency personnel were injured.

The Kern County Fire Department would like to remind you to check your smoke detectors regularly and replace the batteries every six months.
