Bakersfield, CA

At 2:41 p.m. the Kern County Fire Department responded to a reported fire in a shop to the rear of a residence in the 3600 block of Houghton Road in Bakersfield, CA. First arriving crews were met with a large metal shop building fully involved with fire. The residents notified crews that no one was inside at the time of the fire. Fire personnel assessed that the nearby structures and the adjacent residence were threatened by a large residential propane tank that had taken heat damage from the fire and was vent propane and fire. Within ten minutes crews had initial extinguishment on the shop fire and controlled the release of propane from the tank. No other structures were damaged along with a valuable custom truck in a closely located garage. No injuries to the residents or fire personnel occurred.
