Bakersfield, CA

At approximately 2:48 p.m. Friday afternoon, the Kern County Fire Department received a call of smoke in the area of Breckenridge Road and Tarina Court. With temperatures in the triples digits, first arriving crews were faced with a fast moving fire burning in tough terrain. Additional equipment was started including air tankers, hand crews, and fire engines. More than ninety firefighters were dispatched to battle the fire. Crews are still working to contain the spread of the fire with a coordinated attack including: fire apparatus, fire dozers, hand crews, helicopters, and air tankers. Personnel will remain on scene tonight and tomorrow to continue securing containment around the fire as well as performing mop up within the areas already burned. No structures threatened and no evacuations ordered at this time.
