South Taft,  CA

At 9:09 last night the Kern County Fire Department was dispatched to a reported structure fire in the 400 block of F Street in South Taft. Residents were alerted to the fire by a working smoke detector and were able to evacuate safety and call 911. Upon arrival, firefighters saw smoke coming from the attic of a 1000 square foot single story, single family residence. Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire and perform a search of the home confirming no occupants were inside. The attic fire was quickly extinguished and salvage operations were performed to protect some of the home owners belongings.  There were no injuries to firefighters as a result of the fire. The cause of the fire was determined to be electrical.

Additional Information: The Kern County Fire Department would like to remind residence to make sure you have a working smoke detector in your home. As the new year approaches, it is a good reminder to check all smoke detectors and replace the battery if needed.
