At 5:41 this evening, Kern County firefighters responded to a Commercial Fire Alarm at a custom rubber molding facility.  Firefighters arrived on scene within four minutes and were faced with a large industrial structure with smoke showing.  Additional fire units were requested.  Firefighters forced entry into the building and located raw rubber product on fire.  Firefighters searched the interior for occupants and salvaged equipment.  The amount of fire spread was limited due to the activation of two fire sprinklers.  These sprinklers, along with an aggressive attack by firefighters, limited the damage to $75,000.  Firefighters were able to save an estimated $2 million in machinery and industrial equipment.

The fire was caused by a mechanical failure.  No injuries.
