At 09:21 p.m., Kern County Fire Department received a call reporting a fire in a silo at Wonderful Pistachios and Almonds. A site representative advised that the silo holds up to one million pounds of pistachios. First arriving crews found a 3-story-high silo fully involved with fire. The fire was also threatening other silos and infrastructure on three sides. Due to the extensiveness of fire, a priority was set on establishing a water supply. Due to the location of the silo on premises, a water tender was dispatched. An elevated stream was established utilizing a ladder truck, in order to gain better penetration on the fire. The ladder truck, providing greater access, better angles, and substantial gallons per minute, enabled crews to keep the fire from spreading to nearby silos. Crews will remain on scene for a few hours to ensure full extinguishment.
