Shorty after 10:10 a.m. the Kern County Fire Department received multiple calls for a fire in the area of Bodfish Canyon and Jordan Road.  First arriving crews were faced with an approximately 10 acre fire with a moderate rate of spread driven by wind. Crews aggressively attacked the fire to stop the progression at 33 acres.  Crews will remain on scene throughout the night mopping up hotspots. Full containment is expected tomorrow morning.  The cause of the fire is possibly related to target shooting in the area.  Remember--ricocheted bullets can ignite a wildfire in dry vegetation.

Fire Investigators are requesting the public's help with identifying the driver of a car seen leaving the area around the same time of the initial reports of smoke in the area.  Please call 1-877-FIRETIP with any info.  See attached picture.

The Kern County Fire Department would like to remind residents to make sure they maintain the required defensible space around their home.

Evacuations: None - No immediate threat to homes.

Assisting Agencies: Kern County Sheriff, BLM, and USFS
